When I click "return to game" from the menu, the game exits to desk with a message asking me to send a report. this happens only when I have "backbuffer into system memory" activated, but without it, the image looks wierd in first person mode. anyone can help (I only have the demo, if it makes any diffrence)
Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz CPU
Radeon 9800 Pro
768 mb RAM
Windows XP home edition
114 GB hard drive, 13,0 GB free space
could it have something to do with windows XP? I've heard that jk sometimes doesen't work with XP.
I already tried compatibility mode, and it doesn't make any difference (except I can't start it from "jedi" and have to start directly from "jkdemo" if I don't use compatibility mode. I do not get any error messenges. I found some command line that can be used with the full version to enable an advanced graphics menu, but I don't want to buy the full game, and find out I was wrong and that I cannot play it.
Wait wait wait -
Why on earth do you enable memory backbuffer!? You would have to have an extremely outdated video card/machine to make that nessecary.
Now I notice you said without it it looks weird, so I'm gonna ask you to try this:
1) Make SURE 3D Accelleration is enabled
2) Make sure backbuffer into system memory is not enabled
3) Set your resolution to 1024.768
4) Test and let me know how it looks
With a computer as good as you have there is NO WAY you need backbuffer into system memory enabled.
good luck

I borrowed the full version from a friend today, and the bug still appeared. I made sure backbuffer in system memory was off, 3d acceleration on and resolution set to 1024x768, but the same issue still happens. the characters in the game (me and the NPCs) look wrong, especially the NPCs. (I'm quite new to forums, so I don't know how to show images, if anyone can tell me, I have a lot of screenshots that show the problem.
I managed to fix the problem by changing my graphic card settings (in windows, not in JK) to "optimal quality" instead of "optimal speed". thanks everyone who tried to help, and I still have one problem. when I have the aiming crosshair enabled, small grey dots appear in the middle of the screen, in the same gray color as the crosshair. this happened only with 3d acceleration enabled. anyone know what i should do about it?
This is the Massasi thread regarding the bug:

Most of the posts made there were irrelevant and elitist, so moving on to the actual solution to your problem, I would recommend downloading the latest drivers for your video card(If it's ATI then download the catalyst package).

I've downloaded the catalyst package, but it doesn't make any difference
Hmm I dunno. A workaround would be to turn off your crosshair, but the crosshair is a nice feature.
Btw I have the same problem myself. ![]()
Edit: Try reinstalling Jedi Knight. This seems to have fixed the problem.
