ret what value are YOU to the jk community? you never play, you hardly chat (and when you do, you say something stupid). sure you make this website, but this website is uesless except for the forums, which you abuse your control over by locking topics, banning people, hacking other people's forums, etc...

Ret does play. I've seen him post for games, too. Even if he didn't play, he is still an asset to the Jk comunity because of jkdf2.net and narshaddaa.net. It is a central hub for people that have played jk to see that the community is still on going. Some people just post once or twice and move on. Some stick around. Put it this way, I would not be playing JK nowadays if it wasn't for ret, and I thank him for that.

Also I can throw some money into the effort. Heck if just a few people toss in 50 bucks that should cover things. I'm in!!! RET email me at [email protected]

I'll send a 50 dollar cashier check if it will keep it up and running for another year. Just let me know where to send it.

Anyone else gonna step up to the plate????

first of all - the people on this thread whining about no games do not play jk anyway. the only people playing jk right now are me, rhophein, scott, and slash. ive been coming here since the summer and i've never seen anyone on this thread play, EVER.

second - i am not an op. i was an op for about 5 hours and i banned adj. that's all i did. adj came back a few hours later. all adj does is complain. all adj ever says is "shut up" or "<this person> is a moron." how does this help the jk community?

ret what value are YOU to the jk community? you never play, you hardly chat (and when you do, you say something stupid). sure you make this website, but this website is uesless except for the forums, which you abuse your control over by locking topics, banning people, hacking other people's forums, etc...

now either you can keep whining about the "JK Community Leader" (a completely made-up figurehead), or you can accept the fact that this is the JK community. this is how it is, accept it. if you tried to start your own channel, i highly doubt anyone would follow.

i will be on etg #narshaddaa looking for games (as always, unlike everyone else in this thread) until the 16th when i go back to college. stop whining and come play. you're complaining about "no games." well look i'll be here all week, friends. come play me.

Shutup theres never a game and when there is its usually you same idiots playing the same shit, the whole point of a "community" is to allow others to join it not immediately exclude them just because you don't know them.

Wacko is right, thats always been the way it is. Ever since I've been a part of the JK IRC community, I have seen maybe 2 times where a regular has played a normal oasis game with a new guy. The other 500 times there was just bickering back and forth about who's conc is the biggest! Fuck... I just wanna play!

The thing I don't understand is why he requires a virtual dedicated host for this website, the website seems like its big but what takes up the most space is files, so if he removed all those files he's hosting, which I personally don't think is neccessary since if someone hosting a JK game does not have it they usually DCC it or something half the time instead of going through 100 d/l's on a website. For just running a website I think you would just need a normal hosting package that could support all this language and code the site is using, which mosts hosts do now. Who knows best though is Ret becuase he actually sees what the bandwith this thing is pulling in and what space it uses, and what he requires of course.

Hey everybody,

I have been without internet for a number of days and this may continue to be true so I am going to be brief.

Tymerz & Loper(No offense intended by grouping you two together, you guys just seem to be the ones critisizing my character and soforth):

I have no desire to argue amongst you folks about what my role in the JK community was or wasn't. I think that in this stage of Jedi Knight's existance, the time for pugalism is over for good, and I thank you both for your comments. To loper; your criticism is of course always appreciated. ;)[/list:u:32r874jt]
    Hooyer:

I have exchanged emails with Hooyer, just so everyone knows I am talking to him personally about the things he mentioned in his post.[/list:u:32r874jt]
      Nesseight:

I appreciate the time you took to contribute to this thread and the ideas you suggested.

It was so rarely used that i wouldn't recommend setting up anything more than something that runs in the background of an old PC that would otherwise go unused, but can be fitted with a net card on your home network and ran with JKDS's custom (host & administrators) cogs and software.

That's true to some extent, but when people did get together and play on the server, having a sweet server to play on did improve gaming performance. I agree with your suggestion to compress things but I doubt it would come to that. Regarding hosting, I may decide to just move back over to shared hosting because it would be an affordable way to support the community that would certaintly make more sense financially. GoDaddy has been an awesome host that I have not had any problems with at all, so I would like to keep things simple and stick with them if possible. We'll see what happens...[/list:u:32r874jt]
        BeefCaike:

I apologize for outright holding you responsible for the death of JK. I do still contend that you made very poor decisions as admin of #jk, opping people with no IRC experience, drug addictions, and other various behavioral issues. And like I said, stuff like this leads to dramatic community shifts for the worse.[/list:u:32r874jt]

          So what will happen now?

The Server will likely be shut down very soon as I approach the 1 year point of the server lease. I will continue to work with the community to try and figure out some way to continue hosting JKDF2.net even if it requires compromise. Please donate money. This is the only way JKDF2.net will last another year.[/list:u:32r874jt]

            One last thing

Would anyone be interested in starting a channel for mature players interested in specifically playing and discussing JK? If so, let me know. Something like that is what we really need.[/list:u:32r874jt]

              To everyone who thanked me:

Your welcome guys. I really enjoyed being a part of this community and I'm glad I had an opportunity to contribute to it, even if it was a bit late. Even though the future isn't clear yet, I hope we can all continue to enjoy this game in some way for years to come, so who knows. [/list:u:32r874jt]

Beef started up another channel in gamesurge where games are actually going on. He should be given another shot since he cares about this community more than Scott or any other channel admin I've come across. If he does stay the same - I won't have a problem starting a channel up with a dedicated op.

Adding on to it: JKLE, ORJ, and any other players I've seen on these forums haven't been seen on these channels. They should be invited to join irc, and/or the community should start up a web based irc if they can't seem to figure out how to use mIRC.

No reason for these guys that actually play the game to not be in the channels.

There is if channels continue to be run by people like BeefCaike and with the intent of "catering to all JK players" and as such tolerating the crap that any old person will spew all day for the reason of being "fair" ... more like "ignorant".... with time, this new #jk will be no different.

I understand that my track record hasn't been to par with your needs over the last while operating #jk on ZirC, but thats in the past. Since #jk was taken to ETG because of the way it was being run, I understand why people decided to do so. It was about how people were being treated by the ops that I thought would help keep the community alive. Well, I now know better. That's why I've decided to keep the op numbers down. So far, it's just me and Gnarlydewd that are opping #jk on Gamesurge. Gnarl has been a good op ever since #jk on ZirC started, and never gave anyone a hard time. For the first while, it will only be us. As for the needs for an op, there are hardly any. ChanServ takes care of most of the annoying things that could go on in a chat room, plus I've allowed any user to change the topic for games whenever an op is not around. This may get abused, but it is now in the hands of the community to take control over what happens in their room. We will see how this works for the first while, but if it gets abused too much, we can make some changes in how much access people will have.

Things are on the up and up for the world of JK. I don't want to see this game die, because I've been a part of it ever since day 1. I think we all should just get together, and have some good times like we used to, without all the prejudice towards each other. Let's just play the game that brought us all together in the first place.

Thanks. Peace!

Beef

me too πŸ˜‰

While i've been playing JK since like forever, i only have been a part of this jk community for a little time, but i think you guys should give yourselves a breack between one another and, if you care, put what you can or have to give (whatever it is) to keep this going on the best way possible.
As far as myself i'm just thankfull to all of you guys, Beef, Ret, Triscuit, and many many others for all that you gave to this jk community, nvermind the things i might not share with some of you or with some things you've done in the past or even in the present.
I'll be at Beef's channel, at #narshaddaa and at any other place where i think i still might have a chance to have a game...
Cya all there πŸ˜‰

i will be there to challenge you all to honorable battal.

sorry if i sometimes act like a jerk, i know im probably not always liked, and well to be honest i really dont take this internet chatting seriously at all which is probably why i act the way i do in irc.

but if it really bothers people then fine i'll tone it down. I just read now that ret has been paying $450 a year to host this thing lol talk about commitment. I may not always like the kid but I cant help respecting him for a contribution like that.

This site itself hasn't ever been really useful to me but I can definetely say the forums have been a fundamental resource in communicating or staying in touch with other jkers, and no one posting here can deny it (albeit for abuse or just general chit chat). I think sometimes people sorta take this for granted.

Anyway goodluck with the new channel and i'll probably be there from time to time if you can get people to keep playing.
