Second of all, i'll definitelly drop a line to Triscuit and thank for everything, i'm definitely one of those who enjoyed the server...
Third, thatks to you too, Ret for all the effort that i'm sure you put in this site. And sorry i didn't respond to your request to help out with some monney... Although, i was thinking maybe we could still keep the forums, or make a new one on a free server before jkdf2.net and nar goes down (bah, just an idea...)
Fourth, i totally agree with you about the thing with the #narshaddaa channell, the same thing used to happen before at Beefcackes's actually, but whatever... that's all in the past now, and buried i guess...

So what happens now with the forums?I rarely used anything on this site except the forums.And I would guess that probably about 90% of the people left in JK only used the forums also...

The constant trash talk was one aspect of the JK (especially JKMP) community that always bothered me. I kinda accepted it as "the way things are." Really, I just was glad to have a place to play.

Having a dedicated server is pretty ideal but I'm sure that, even with just a forum, the JKMP community could still function. We could set up IP games, schedule times to meet up, etc. I'm not very knowledgeable about these things (obviously) but it's just a thought.

I've no plans to stop playing JK, either. Keep me in the loop! My AIM sn is TheJumpyDroid (yes, I'm that guy in addition to Dark JK Server).

Yeah, i'm gonna keep playing JK too, of course...
I think we could at least save the forums by moving them to a free server and advertise about it so everyone starts going to the new one to keep the community alive, with it's good things and it's bad things that irremediably will keep going on, but in the end it gives some colour to the community and some people seems to like it...
I don't know much about this either, but in any case i offer myself for anything i might be usefull for.

How much do you need???

The cost for the first year was manageable, somewhere between $120 and $130 for Febuary 2005-2006, but in Febuary of 2006 for the past year of hosting the cost involved was somewhere around $450(I have the exact amount on an invoice somewhere). That cost is to pay for a couple things:

1) The webspace, the bulk of the price
2) The 3 domains, JKDF2.com, JKDF2.net, and NarShaddaa.net (Not more than $15 I don't think)

If I was able to raise $200 that would prove to me the JK community is capable of raising money for a community effort and would perhaps renew my desire to continue to attempt to revive the community. This cost should fall on no one person, unless they have a really strong desire to contribute.

Some good news, Godaddy has LOWERED their rates somewhat. IT would be about $350 to get the same setup we've had the past year, which was more than nessecary but the minimum setup I could have gotten from GoDaddy.com. However - something that recently caught my attention is the fact that I could get a Windows server as opposed to a Linux server. This means that the server would host not only the website, but would potentially be able to run as a game server! We could run JK on it, JO, JA, anything, I would be able to control it as if it was a computer in my room, through remote desktop. (That also means all you would have to do is put "jkdf2.net" in the TCP/IP JK IP box!!!) The cost for a windows server along with the domains would come to about $450 which is what I paid last year for an equivilent server loaded with only linux.

Looks like the situation has become much more complicated. I can dedicate a laptop to keep one game running. My IP can change but usually remains the same for months at a time. A personal problem would be that I could never play the game. The old laptop would host JK quite well, but from the graphics and user input side it sucks. It could truly be dedicated to hosting around the clock whether i am home or not. I guess it would be subject to game destroyers though. And the game may go lengths of time destroyed by hackers before i might discover it. I always wondered how JKserver always ran smooth without coggers screwing with it? Did it have some good protection to prevent it? My method would probably not be as reliable but it could be done. Also I can throw some money into the effort. Heck if just a few people toss in 50 bucks that should cover things. I'm in!!! Is that where all the cool JKers go now? Looks like I have to register a nickname or something. Oh well i will keep trying.

Things did get a little dissappointing. It seems people wanted to seize control of the community and it split it all to hell in the long run. That's why i tried to stay everywhere as the splitting occurred. And yeah that tends to piss people off also. Sometimes you just can't win.

As for myself I know I don't have the time to hang and chat about JK every day of my life. But a couple times a week it is nice to have somewhere to go and throw out a few words to old friends (and enemies.hehe) And heck yeah get a game going now and then. I just hope when I'm an old man there will still be a couple people around to talk about the greatest game ever made. And yes i blame mainly Outcast for the destruction of JK. It was a pathetic replacement to JKDF2, and why 3/4 of the community switched to that crappy game i will never know?

Well, thats a very interesting writeup Ret. Even though you claim that I was one of the reasons JK died. Let me inform you that that statement is substancially false. I do believe Scott and Wodz, and the whole move to ETG was the reason. They are the ones who went around my "thriving" #jk channel telling everybody that I am a Nazi, that I run my channel poorly, and that they all should move themselves to ETG. It's amazing what people will listen to and believe when it is forced through their heads as if someone were hammering a nail through it! Okay, so I opped some people that handled things poorly when I was away, and when I tried to dicipline them, they got hostile towards me. Fine, you can have that, however I was the reason JK lasted as long as it did! #NarShaddaa on ETG didn't last a month before people started getting tired of it. How do you expect a room to run when you have a dick obsessed imbicile like Scott running it? The conversations in that room were far from intelligent. It was only a matter of time before that place fell apart, just like I thought it would.

I understand #jk had some rough times because people were getting abused by the ops, but did you ever see ME abusing anyone? Never. I gave every single person in that room the respect they deserved. Even the less respected ones who simply wanted someone to talk to, there I was. It was a mistake opping my friends, because I found out later on that that doesn't work... especially when you need to put your foot down, and lay down the law. I learned my lesson shortly after #jk was turning for the worst, so I deopped everyone that caused trouble... remember that? It was on the virge of becoming a better place, because I handled the one major issue it had. It's not like I wasn't listening to the people complining, it just took some time to figure out how to fix it. The move to ETG in my opinion was the worst mistake the JK Community could have made because #jk was the best place, and has been for 2 and a half years before the move to ETG.

Anyway, having said that, there is NO reason JK should die! I love this game with all my heart, which is why I opted to continue its life by creating a community chat room. You as well, Ret, had a big part in it as well with the creation of this website. I was quite upset when everyone decided to move away from #jk, because I knew it was not going to be handled by the right people. It's a shame it had to happen, but it did. However, I don't see it as being over yet. Find a way to keep this site, and get everyone back to where they need to be! ZirC is history, and there is a new #jk channel on Gamesurge.net. Gamesurge is a much larger and more prestigeous IRC server than ETG with millions of actual players. That's where everyone needs to be if they want to see #jk live on. ETG is doing nothing for the longevity of this awesome game. Don't give up on JK yet guys, it still has a fighting chance!

I hope to see some of you in there! Let's forget about the past, and start fresh. JK is worth it.

It is sad to see the JK community fall, but I am one of the person's who can keep this alive. I am probably one of the best leaders in this JK community who can keep things running for a long time. I have the resources and the time management to keep things running, I also a fair person. I have had forums in the pat but where hacked by RET. I know how to run a community and can keep JK going, most of you guys are very immature, I give props to RET for having this awsome site for the JK community, but RET had to take some more of a leadership role, no offence but age makes a difference, I've seen it all and done it all, so i know how things work and run. I saw this JK community going downhill since beefcaikes channel went from etg to zirc, that was the downfall. We have to eliminate all of this "trash" talking, if you want a game of JK the irc channel should of be strictkly for that, if you want to trash talk go somewhere else, create your own channel, JK channel should be strickly left for JK games and talk, not all this drugs and bullshit talk, that loper and jbr talk about. If you want JK to live simple changes have to be made. I am in gamesurge right now in beefcaikes channel and I am seeing people join saying WOW JK DF2 games are still being played!, for a fact people use to play this game and have moved on and some of these people might come back if all this emo shit is over, and games are actually played.

first of all - the people on this thread whining about no games do not play jk anyway. the only people playing jk right now are me, rhophein, scott, and slash. ive been coming here since the summer and i've never seen anyone on this thread play, EVER.

second - i am not an op. i was an op for about 5 hours and i banned adj. that's all i did. adj came back a few hours later. all adj does is complain. all adj ever says is "shut up" or "<this person> is a moron." how does this help the jk community?

ret what value are YOU to the jk community? you never play, you hardly chat (and when you do, you say something stupid). sure you make this website, but this website is uesless except for the forums, which you abuse your control over by locking topics, banning people, hacking other people's forums, etc...

now either you can keep whining about the "JK Community Leader" (a completely made-up figurehead), or you can accept the fact that this is the JK community. this is how it is, accept it. if you tried to start your own channel, i highly doubt anyone would follow.

i will be on etg #narshaddaa looking for games (as always, unlike everyone else in this thread) until the 16th when i go back to college. stop whining and come play. you're complaining about "no games." well look i'll be here all week, friends. come play me.

I just read all this stuff becuase I had nothing to do and I was bored, I'm very busy running servers and a team for CSS. I see you guys need webspace and this and that, I of course can supply all of this, you think $450 is a lot for 12months?, well i pay about $1000 every 6months for the stuff i run. I agree its expensive for a 16yr old who works at mcdonalds, but if you get into this business you got to expect to pay money. So straight to the point I have the resources to run this stuff if you need it, and ask nicely.
