I have a LOT of SW EU books.
The ones that stood out for myself, are:
The Hand of Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn
Specter of the Past
Vision of the Future
From the New Jedi Order:
Traitor by Matthew Woodring Stover
From the X-Wing/Wraith Squadron Series:
Wraith Squadron by Aaron Allston
Iron Fist by Aaron Allston
Right before Phantom Menace:
Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter by Michael Reaves, great book.
Those are the ones that come to the top of my head. ![]()
I love those ones, a lot. I suggest you check those out, they are my favorites, but it's your call. ![]()
As for good/bad books, to me it's all History, I enjoy it all, yes some book I like more and some less but I've never read a SW book where I said "man, this sucks".
You should probally just go to your local bookstore and pick up a bunch of random ones, or use Amazon to get them cheap.
Oh and I've met BOTH Aaron Allston and Matt Stover, which is very very cool, nice people.

Some of the NJO was great, some of it was repetive. Traitor is a great great book, imo.

I liked Star by Star and the Enemy Lines duology best. I didn't like Traitor at all, because that's mainly where they started dismantling Star Wars and recreating it in their own image.
Traitor was great tho, it was all about Jacen and no other crap. Dismantling Star Wars tho? I don't think so.
