Images in signatures have been disabled for a few reasons. If you have a image in your signature you will see it has been repleace by a "Click to view image" link.
1) These tend to be large, taking up unnessecary space
2) They bog down dialup speed and increase page load time
3) They are generally ugly

Honestly though image sigs are fine as long as you keep the size down to a minimum and use JPG or 256 color PNG files even. That way load times are minimized even for those on 56k.
I've never really had problems. And ugly... oh well. After seeing SM and sloan's forums, the whole layout of these is... well... ugly.
